Al Qassimi Hospital's cardiology centre, one of the facilities under Emirates Health Services, successfully performed an aortic valve catheterization on a 70-year-old Emirati patient who was in serious condition due to a congenital disorder. This was accomplished via a live broadcast lasting an hour and fifteen minutes at the Gulf Catheterization Conference, which was hosted at the Conrad Hotel Dubai and attended by a large number of specialists from the Gulf and across the world.

The operation was performed, with the support of the Emirates Health Services, using the "Safi" wire technology, which was employed for the first time in the Middle East and served three functions: transferring the valve through the aorta to the implantation place and instantly monitoring the heart rate during the procedure to ensure valve stability.

Dr. Aref Al Nouriani praised the Emirates Health Services for its ongoing support and commitment to using cutting-edge technologies and equipment in its facilities to provide community members the best medical treatment in accordance with the highest international standards and practices that will improve their quality of life and meet their needs and contribute to more success stories in the healthcare sector.

Dr. Al Nouriani explained: "The procedure involved transplanting an aortic valve to the patient, who has suffered from significant Aortic stenosis since 2018 and has been hospitalised since the beginning of May 2023 with complaints of heart muscle failure, pulmonary edema, and frequent fainting. The patient has high levels of cholesterol and diabetes and requires oxygen constantly, in addition to a complex condition that ruled out regular surgery due to risks involved in administering anesthesia."

He added that the patient had a very high level of valve calcification and a congenital disorder called a "Bicuspid aortic valve", a genetic ailment whereby normal people have three cusps.

Dr. Al Nouriani complimented the success of the procedure performed by leading medical professionals in Al Qassimi Hospital's cardiology centre, and highlighted their skill and extensive experience in the field.

Al Qassimi Hospital Sharjah, one of the Emirates Health Services facilities, is one of the prominent medical facilities both locally and internationally. Its staff has performed several rare and complex surgeries over the last few years in various health specialties. The hospital offers the most up-to-date smart medical technologies and devices.
